Asana — the physical postures of yoga — is the practice most commonly associated with yoga. Asana focuses on the embodiment of practice — bringing yoga (or “union”) to the body. What preconceptions about your body, if any, do you bring with you to your practice? How do your thoughts about the body affect your yoga practice? Many yoga lineages teach that non-judgment self-awareness is a key to union of body, mind and spirit. As you practice, remind yourself that the physical practice of yoga is not about performance but rather, presence. Aim to let your internal Witness embody the external practice, bringing a gentle, compassionate self-awareness to every breath, every movement, and every muscle.
