The fourth observance (Niyama) is Svadhyaya or self-study, which invites us to engage in observance of our thoughts, words and actions — and in particular, to notice without judgment the integrity among them. Do my words and actions reflect my proclaimed values? Do I judge others and myself consistently? There are many opportunities to safely explore the first two limbs of yoga on the mat. During your asana practice this week, consider cultivating your ability to witness the fluctuations of the mind. Notice, without judgment, the thoughts and their patterns. Notice if your motivations and behaviors jive.
